My Platform
Anchorage’s Schools Need Real Leadership—And Real Change.
"Our district has fallen behind, despite having some of the highest education spending in the country. We rank 49th in academic performance, while millions are wasted on salaries and outside interests instead of helping students succeed. Parents are ignored, teachers are under-supported, and our kids are being left behind."

It’s time for a new approach—one that puts families, students, and teachers first.
For too long, our schools have been stuck in a cycle of high spending and low results—and families, students, and teachers are paying the price. The Anchorage School District needs real leadership, real accountability, and real solutions. That’s why I’m running.
I believe in transparent decision-making, empowering parents, and ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education.
It’s time to put students first, support our teachers, and restore trust in our schools.
Let’s make it happen—together.
The Truth About Our Schools
As a parent, I know how much we all want the best for our kids. But let’s be honest—our schools are struggling. We’re spending more than ever, yet student outcomes are getting worse. Teachers are burning out, families are frustrated, and leadership is failing to deliver real results. Our kids deserve better. It’s time to fix this.
Near the Bottom
Alaska ranks 49th in education, yet we spend more than most states.
Leadership Failure
Anchorage school leaders have ignored parents and failed students.
High Cost, Low Results
We spend 7th most per student but rank near last in performance.
Teacher Standards Dropping
Fewer qualified teachers, fewer resources, and lower classroom success.
Teacher Retention Crisis
Experienced teachers are leaving, while the district struggles to recruit.
Financial Meltdown
Anchorage schools are on track for a $2 billion deficit by 2027.

Alex’s Plan for Anchorage Schools

1
Safe Schools & Stronger Policies
The Problem
-
Parents and teachers don’t feel confident in school safety policies.
-
Bullying, classroom disruptions, and a lack of accountability are driving families away from public schools.
Alex’s Plan
-
Implement clear, strong anti-bullying measures with real enforcement.
-
Support teachers in maintaining classroom discipline.
-
Work with law enforcement & local leaders to improve school security.

2
Parental Rights & Transparency
The Problem
-
The current board ignores parents and silences their concerns.
-
Families deserve a say in how schools are run.
Alex’s Plan
-
Full curriculum transparency—parents have the right to know what’s being taught.
-
Ensure parents have a direct voice in school decisions.
-
Strengthen parent-teacher collaboration to improve student outcomes.

3
Academic Excellence & Student Success
The Problem
-
More than half of Anchorage students cannot read at grade level.
-
Alaska’s math and literacy scores have plummeted.
Alex’s Plan
-
Push for a locally selected reading reform model, which has proven success in turning around low-performing states.
-
Focus on fundamentals—reading, writing, math, and science over political agendas.
-
Reinstate high academic expectations and hold ASD accountable for real progress.

4
Smarter Spending & Budget Reform
The Problem
-
ASD ranks 7th in spending per student, yet academic results are near the bottom.
-
Anchorage Schools face a $2 Billion deficit by 2027.
-
Salaries have skyrocketed, while teachers struggle with limited resources.
Alex’s Plan
-
Audit ASD’s budget to cut waste and redirect funds into the classroom.
-
Invest in teachers and students, not outside interests.
-
Ensure funding follows students, not outside interests.

5
Career, Vocational & Life Ready Education
The Problem
-
Not all students want or need to go to college.
-
Vocational training, life skills & career readiness options are underfunded.
Alex’s Plan
-
Expand career and vocational programs so students graduate job-ready.
-
Strengthen trade school partnerships to provide real-world career paths.
-
Support military-bound students and apprenticeships for alternative success routes.

6
Restoring Merit-Based Education
The Problem
-
Prioritizing DEI over individual merit, shifted focus from academic excellence.
-
Lowered standards compromise student preparedness for college and careers.
-
Hiring and admissions practices aren't always based on competence and potential.
Alex’s Plan
-
Return to merit-based hiring, ensuring the best educators and staff serve our students.
-
Implement a challenging curriculum that prepares students for future success.
-
Promote a culture where hard work and achievement are celebrated.
-
Ensure transparent, fair policies that provide equal opportunities for all students.
